Mercerized cotton is a specially heat-treated kind of cotton yarn that is more lustrous than conventional cotton, consequently; it is also referred to as pearl cotton.
Compared to normal cotton, mercerized cotton is stronger; it has a higher resistance to mildew and lint barely ever appears. It also has almost no shrinkage and will keep its shape for a long time. Finally, mercerized cotton has a high affinity to dye and to ensure that the colours stay strong and beautiful despite high exposure to sunlight.
Because the mercerization process responds best to long-stable fibres, only the best cotton can be used in this process.
